Friends of Parks

The first friends group was formed in 1982 and the numbers have grown until there are now 126 member groups, with individual membership exceeding 6000. There are groups across the state ranging from the Simpson Desert in the North, the Great Victoria Desert in the west to Dingley Dell (Port McDonnell) in the Southeast and the Riverland. Each group works in co-operation with the rangers of the district in accordance with a management plan. Work carried out by the various groups can include bush regeneration by propagation and planting of native plants with weed control by various means, surveys of both animals and plants and maintenance work on heritage sites and tracks. As one of the 126 Friends of Parks groups in SA, Friends of the Flinders Ranges Park is an example of a volunteer group working to protect the natural and cultural heritage values of the Park by undertaking regular weed & pest eradication, preserving the built heritage, and educating the public about their Park.

Trees For Life

The Tree Scheme provides below cost local native seedlings to landholders for planting on their properties. The Bush For Life program is a bush management program, which trains volunteers to manage areas of remnant vegetation. The newest program, Direct Seeding, not only increases revegetation efforts, but also offers species diversity amongst broad scale revegetation.

Whale & Dolphin Conservation Society
